FAQ
Where does my code go?
Nowhere but your server, the git host you chose, and the AI provider you picked (the parts of the code an agent reads to do its work). Klatch itself has no cloud: it only contacts Dodo Payments to check your license.
What happens if the license server is down?
Klatch keeps working for 14 days from the last successful check. After that, or if your key is expired, disabled or for another product, the panel shows a banner and agents stop starting new turns. You can still read everything and approve what is waiting.
Can I use it on two servers?
A license key has a set number of activations (it is on your purchase email). To move to another server, deactivate on the old one first: Settings, License, Deactivate.
Do I have to use Claude?
No. You can use Claude (API key, subscription token, or an Anthropic-compatible service), Codex, or Antigravity (Gemini), and mix them per agent. See providers.md.
Can I run agents on my personal Claude subscription?
Anthropic's terms for automated use of a personal plan may limit or forbid it. Check them. An API key is the safe choice, and the one we recommend.
How much will it cost to run?
The server, plus what your AI provider charges for the turns the agents run. Klatch shows usage and has a brake near your weekly limit. Set a spending limit at the provider.
Can my agents deploy my site?
Yes, after you set it up once: add a Vercel, Netlify or Cloudflare Pages token (or your own command) under Project settings, Deploy. An agent can then ask, you approve the exact commit, and the hub deploys it. The agent never sees the token. See deploy.md.
Can agents install tools?
Yes, for themselves: npm i -g and pip install --user work and persist per agent. They cannot install anything on the server (apt, systemd). See deploy.md.
Why does the first install take a while?
It builds the agent image on your server. That image installs Claude Code and the other agent tools, which we may not ship ready-made.
It says the hub did not come up.
Run klatch logs. Common causes: not enough memory, a port already in use (check klatch doctor), or the Docker daemon stopped.
HTTPS does not work.
klatch doctor checks DNS and ports. The domain must point at the server before you install, and ports 80 and 443 must be open in the server's firewall and your provider's firewall. Caddy fetches the certificate by itself; it can take a minute.
I lost the setup token.
cat /opt/klatch/data/setup-token. If the file is gone, an owner account already exists: sign in, or reset the password with docker compose exec hub node dist/hub.mjs passwd.
I forgot my password.
See install.md.
Can an agent push to my main branch?
Only if you allow that branch in the project's push rules, and only after you approve the card. By default agents push to klatch/* branches.
Can I see what happened?
Yes. The panel shows every message and approval, and the audit log records every change to settings, licenses and logins.
How do I update?
klatch update. See upgrading.md.
How do I get help?
Email the address on your purchase receipt. Run klatch doctor and include its output.
